2015 Bufete Aguirre Soc Civ celebrated its 75th anniversary of continued practice as a leading business and corporate firm in Bolivia, now with presence in the cities of La Paz and Santa Cruz. Considered a specialised boutique firm, with five partners, one IP and IT associate plus an associative relationship with a leading litigation firm, it offers full services to commercial and corporate clients. It also renders services to a number of not-for-profit organisations and provides full or partial pro bono services.  Founded in 1940 by Dr Carlos Aguirre R (OBE), who practised law for 50 years, of which he spent a year and a half as Justice of the Bolivian Supreme Court, the firm was reorganised and recognised by the La Paz Bar Association as a civil corporation in May 1998. In 2015 Partner Carolina Aguirre moved to Santa Cruz to manage the firm’s clients in said city.  The firm’s IP and IT group, headed by partner Perla Koziner (LLM in intellectual property, Queen Mary College, London), celebrated 16 years of intensive practice, which has placed the firm among the five leading IP firms of Bolivia.  Its arbitration practice is co-ordinated by senior partner Dr Fernando Aguirre B (Postgraduate Diploma in law, Oxford University), an arbitrator at the National Chamber of Commerce, La Paz, at the National Chamber of Hydrocarbons, Santa Cruz and at the Kuala Lumpur regional centre for arbitration and a member of the Latin American Arbitration Group of the ICC. He also leads and coordinates the firm’s very important mining practice. A former professor of Public International Law and ADR and arbitration he has participated in the multi party negotiations for a new Mining Law passed in 2014 and in discussions for the new Conciliation and Arbitration Law passed in 2015. He has served as arbitrator in various cases and contributed to various publications on arbitration and other business and commercial law subjects.  Partner Ignacio M Aguirre U (LLM in law and development at the London School of Economics) leads the energy, natural resources and banking and financing group, has been professor of environmental law and contributed to a diversity of legal publications. Partner Carolina Aguirre U (Master in corporate and fiscal law at the Managing and Administration School – EADA of Spain), now located in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, leads the labour group of the firm and is a member of the young council of the Latin American regional forum and country representative of the young lawyers council of the ISA.  Partner Milenka Saavedra M (Postgraduate in tax law and Master in regulation and competition at the Andean University Simón Bolivar, La Paz) leads the tax and litigation groups.  Memberships in the IBA, ABA, INTA, AIPN, RMMLF, ICC, the Latin American Arbitration Association, GLOBALAW and other professional and commercial organisations allow the firm’s members to be active participants at national and international conferences, at some of which they have been panel participants contributing with various papers on Bolivian legal issues of international interest.
